Client: Camille Cordier, Ph.D. researcher, Université Lumière Lyon2-France
Services: Copyediting, Line-Editing

The Ph.D. researcher in modern history at the University of Lyon Lumière 2 examines the issues of urban history, material culture, colonialism, and food markets in Saint Domingue (Cape France 1690-1790).

I copyedited her article “Shaping a Colonial City: “The Space and Time of the Slaves’ Market in Eighteenth-Century Cap-Français.”

My copyediting approach included:

Checking for and correcting:

  • Errors in grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation.
  • Technical consistency in capitalization, font usage, hyphenation, and spelling consistency (UK-US spelling).

I also provided line-editing by:

  • Improving word choice.
  • Rewriting and restructuring (by adding remarks in the comment section of the word document).
  • Checking the readability of the article ensuring that the reader can grasp the writer’s argumentation.
  • Checking for redundancies, tone of voice, flow, and coherence.
